It is no secret that Sherwin Williams holds the record for the best historical colorways with their Historic Colors collection. With this project we had a clear vision to keep the historic beauty and nature of the build and bring the past back to life with some of our favorite paints from the collection. For this color analysis we'll take a look at our most recent project, nearly completed! This is the old General Store and Post Office of Historic Hartsville.
Fun fact/Myth?!: In the 19th Century, when this home was likely used as a General Store/Post Office. Your mailroom would change based on which political party held the Presidency for the term.
The first color you'll notice is this outstanding deep red color. Inviting, warm and welcoming to greet you at the front door. This color exudes nostalgia, with the idea of colonials in mind. Think like Colonial Williamsburg and the vintage red doors they have as you're walking down Duke of Gloucester Street. Nothing but architecture of another time as far as the eye could see. Evoking a feeling of yesteryear. We've kept this nostalgic color palette throughout the build to keep a cohesive look.
Contrary to popular opinion, people of the 18th century were actually quite colorful and expressed their individuality through their clothing choices in patterns, paint colors, and wallpaper for their homes. In the modern day, one could compare some 18th century style to maximalism and while that can work for a lot of people, we wanted to evoke a calming, luxury, spa like environment. These colors suited that feeling the best. Keeping the dark colors as accents and using the color Worldly Gray for the walls, everywhere and continuing the Pearly White down to the baseboards. While the standout feature of this room remains focused on the front door in the shade Aurora Brown.
Moving forward to the upstairs and rooms deeper in the house, we'll find the use of the calmer colors in our pallette. Again pulling that serene spa like feeling to an office space or small bedroom.
Overall, you can see based on the pictures provided how we procured a color palette with the Sherwin Williams Historic Color Collection to shape a cohesive feeling. Allowing us the ability to tell a story through the walls of this project.
